I’m a filmmaker and multidisciplinary artist based in Detroit. Curiosity has always been the thing that drives me. Toward new places, new people, new mediums, and new ways of seeing.
Over the past 15 years, that curiosity has taken me through filmmaking, photography, illustration, design, screen printing, painting, animation, color grading, installation, sound, poetry, and code. I’ve never been particularly interested in staying inside one discipline. I tend to follow an idea wherever it wants to go and learn whatever I need along the way.
My creative life took shape in Detroit’s underground art community. I spent years making experimental work, collaborating with artists, projecting visuals at events, building installations, and finding ways to combine analog and digital processes. That world taught me to experiment without knowing exactly where something would lead, and to trust the strange ideas enough to follow them.
Along the way, my work has taken some unexpected forms. I’ve created generative visuals with modular synthesizers, participated in a Red Bull artist residency, exhibited work connected to Detroit’s Dirty Show and Jerry Vile, worked on projects for the David Lynch Foundation, became a finalist in a horror film competition, and once helped take a giant surrealist dog sculpture on the road.
Professionally, I’ve worked across film, photography, design, animation, and commercial production. Moving between those worlds gave me a broad visual vocabulary, but over time I found myself increasingly drawn toward cinematography.
I taught myself color grading by studying the films that moved me most and reverse-engineering their looks until I could create them myself. That process changed the way I understood images. Light, color, composition, movement, texture, and time stopped feeling like separate decisions. They became parts of the same language.
Eventually, that language led me toward documentary filmmaking. There’s something about documenting real people that I keep coming back to. You can prepare, but you can’t completely control what happens. You have to pay attention. You have to listen. When something real appears in front of you, you have to recognize it. That combination of craft and discovery feels natural to me.
I’m currently traveling the East Coast as Director of Photography on a three-week documentary series about artists across America. I’m meeting people, entering their worlds, and trying to make images that feel as alive and particular as the people in them. After all these years and mediums, the thread connecting everything I’ve made is simple:
